Have you left no shame, sir?

I find the farewell speech and the press interviews of President Bush in the last days of his Presidency, rather pathetic. Here is a President who by any standard of measures, is leaving the country in a horrible state. When George Bush became President in 2001, USA was a true superpower in the world with a strong economy and unmatched military power. We were respected and admired worldwide (despite President Clintons’ shenanigans in the White House!). Now look where we are. We are on the throes of a severe recession with no clear remedies. With huge debts to China, and with a military stretched to the limit in two wars with no end in sight, the claim of still being the only superpower in the world sounds rather hollow. Our government is bloated and staffed with incompetents, as was demonstrated in the Katrina hurricane recovery, and the recent financial bailout (which has no accounting of the billions given out). No wonder that the approval rating of President Bush is now in the low twenty’s, the lowest ever recorded in its 70 year history. Almost everyone is impatiently waiting to see him go. This is the time to make a quiet exit with a towel over your head. Not this President!
